Journeys with the Johnsons: May 2013

Tyler is 5

Tyler Benjamin turned 5 years old on April 24th. This was without a doubt his most anticipated birthday yet! We ended up celebrating over the course of 2 weeks since his party wasn't on the weekend closest to his birthday.....which of course suited him perfectly. Here are 5 fun facts about our sweet boy:

1) Tyler is learning to read and he continues to impress us with his new words. We were in the store a couple of weeks ago looking at some games and Tyler pointed to one and said "What about Mini Game Greatest Hits".....and that was exactly what it said! He can read the Early Reader Level 1 books pretty much completely on his own now. We've been reading him The Magic Treehouse chapter books at night before bed and he loves, loves them! We're happy that he enjoys reading!

2) He's athletic and loves sports! He likes to play sports and watch games with Daddy. It cracks me up to listen to Ben and Tyler watching sports together. Tyler knows exactly when to pipe in with appropriate comments on an athlete's performance. Basketball is still his favorite (to play), but tee ball comes in a close 2nd.

3) He talks about God often, sings Bible songs, learns his weekly Bible verses, and is praying more complex prayers. Tyler picks someone different to pray for every night before bed. He is asking more and more questions and seems to be understanding how important Jesus is.

4) Tyler LOVES anything technological. He is a huge Wii fan and enjoys playing his leappad. He'll play games on our phones any chance he gets and he likes to do computer learning games.

5) His favorite foods are grilled cheese, pizza, macaroni and cheese, yogurt, ice cream, potatoes, carrots, and jello

Norton Reunion 2013

We had a good time visiting with family at the Norton Reunion in Clemson. The Nortons are my paternal grandmother's side of the family. Tyler made friends with a 12 year old boy who was happy to share all his baseball tips. Uncle Keith may have claimed the title of "favorite uncle" by helping Tyler to learn how to ride a bike.....for at least an hour. Tee Ball

Tyler is playing tee ball for the 1st time through the city recreation department. He is on the "Texas Rangers" team and all the kids are between 4-6 years old. Tyler is a lefty batter and likes to play 1st base. He's a decent batter and typically hits it off of the pitches (before they bring out the tee). Ben is helping to coach which Tyler enjoys.
